CIS Group plans to build a 23 MW PV park which cost nearly $22.4 million in Copsa Mica, Sibiu County. The PV park — expected to be commissioned next year — will include 4 MW of storage to enhance energy management and grid stability.
PV Park: Boosting Renewable Energy in Romania
CIS Group — Romanian energy holding company — is moving forward with a significant green energy project. On Tuesday, CIS Group announced plans to develop a 23 MW photovoltaic (PV) park in Copsa Mica, Sibiu County. The project is estimated to cost almost $22.4 million.
The project will also include a storage capacity of 4 MW, ensuring better energy management and grid stability. According to CIS Group, the PV park is expected to be commissioned at the beginning of next year.
This announcement came through a press release, where the company shared the details of this venture. The development will be financed by Romania's National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), a vital step in boosting renewable energy production in the country.
Key Features of the 23 MW PV Park
This new PV park is not only noteworthy for its 23 MW capacity but also for its 4 MW storage capacity. The storage system is designed to help manage energy fluctuations, thus making it easier to maintain a steady supply to the national grid.
This feature is critical as renewable energy sources can often be intermittent due to weather conditions. The storage will allow energy produced during periods of excess to be stored and then released during peak demand or when production drops.
The inclusion of energy storage shows that CIS Group is focusing on both renewable production and the efficient management of power supply. The photovoltaic park aims to enhance the national energy mix by providing more renewable sources.
CIS Group’s Commitment to Renewable Energy
CIS Group is heavily invested in renewable energy, thereby aligning its projects with Romania's green energy goals. This PV park is one of several initiatives the company is working on. By incorporating renewable sources such as solar, CIS Group is contributing to reducing the country's carbon footprint and promoting sustainability in the energy sector.
Through its involvement in the energy transition, the company continues to play a leading role in Romania’s goal of creating a low-carbon economy. The project — backed by the NRRP's Component C6 – Energy — will provide support for the creation of new capacities in the field of renewable energy.
Upcoming Projects from CIS Group
In addition to the PV park in Copsa Mica, CIS Group is preparing to launch two more major projects by the end of the year. One of these will be a 50 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) located near Targu Mures, Mures County. This energy storage facility will play a critical role in balancing energy production and consumption in the area.
The second project involves constructing a smaller PV park near the city of Reghin, also in Mures County. This park will have a production capacity of 5 MW and an energy storage capacity of 1 MW. Both projects are expected to begin soon and will significantly increase CIS Group's renewable energy footprint in Romania.
These new initiatives — combined with the current PV park in Copsa Mica — demonstrate CIS Group’s long-term strategy to invest in green energy. They aim to ensure energy security, balance network supply, and contribute to the national and regional energy systems’ overall efficiency.
The 23 MW PV park in Copsa Mica is just one of CIS Group’s steps toward promoting renewable energy in Romania. With nearly $22.4 million invested in this project and future developments underway, CIS Group is making significant contributions to the country’s green energy landscape.
