50 Youths Benefit From Solar Technology Training in Adamawa

Over 50 youths from Adamawa Central Senatorial District have completed a weeklong training program focused on solar technology, which equipped them with skills in installation, maintenance, and self-reliance. Facilitated by Senator Aminu Iya Abbas in collaboration with the Energy Commission of Nigeria, the initiative also provided startup tools to empower participants to apply their expertise effectively.

A Weeklong Solar Technology Training

In a strategic move to address the growing demand for renewable energy, over 50 youths from Adamawa Central Senatorial District have successfully completed an intensive training program on solar power installation and maintenance. The weeklong program — designed to enhance self-reliance and address the challenges of unreliable public electricity — was facilitated by Senator Aminu Iya Abbas in collaboration with the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) and SNG Structure Synergy Limited.

The initiative — described as transformative by stakeholders — aims to equip participants with critical skills in solar technology. The senator, who was represented Dr. Adamu Babikkoi, emphasized that the training goes beyond imparting technical knowledge. It also includes providing startup tools to enable participants to implement their skills immediately.

Senator Aminu Iya Abbas highlighted the urgent need for renewable energy solutions in the face of Nigeria’s unstable power supply. He stated that solar technology offers a sustainable alternative that aligns with global efforts to transition to cleaner energy sources. “The training is part of my commitment to equipping youths with practical skills that can transform their lives and communities,” the senator noted.

The beneficiaries were drawn from six local government areas, including Hong, Gombi, Song, Girei, Yola North, Yola South, and Fufore. Each participant received hands-on training and practical demonstrations on solar hybrid systems, thus ensuring they are well-prepared to meet the growing demand for renewable energy solutions.

Collaboration with Experts

The training was enriched by the expertise of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), whose representatives provided in-depth insights into renewable energy technologies. Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, the Director General of ECN, expressed optimism about the program’s long-term impact. Represented by Alhaji Na’yaya Garba, he stated that solar technology is a vital tool for addressing energy challenges and fostering economic growth.

Supervisors N’ayaya Garba and Nafi’u Tijjani, who led the sessions on behalf of the ECN, commended Senator Abbas for his forward-thinking approach. They praised the initiative as a significant step toward empowering youths with skills that promote self-reliance.

The training has been widely praised by local leaders and stakeholders. Chief Luri Zephania, Vice Chairman of Girei Local Government, described the initiative as timely and impactful. He urged the beneficiaries to maximize the opportunities provided by the training and the startup tools. “The tools and knowledge you have received are a foundation for a brighter future. Use them to create solutions that will benefit your communities and beyond,” Chief Zephania remarked.

For the participants, the training was a life-changing experience. Speaking on behalf of the group, Imamu Garba and Hingino Enock expressed gratitude to the organizers. They affirmed their readiness to apply their newly acquired skills and share their knowledge with others in their respective communities. “The training has given us the confidence and ability to install and maintain solar power systems. We are eager to make a difference in our neighborhoods and contribute to solving the energy crisis,” said Imamu Garba.

A Path Toward Sustainability

The emphasis on solar technology as a sustainable energy solution underscores the significance of this initiative. With Nigeria facing persistent challenges in its electricity supply, renewable energy sources like solar power offer a viable alternative. The training not only addresses the immediate needs of the beneficiaries but also contributes to the broader goal of energy independence.

By equipping youths with skills in solar technology, the program aligns with global trends that prioritize sustainability and innovation. It also opens up economic opportunities for the participants, who can now provide solar installation and maintenance services in their communities.

A weeklong solar technology training in Adamawa Central Senatorial District — led by Senator Aminu Iya Abbas — aimed to empower youths and promote renewable energy. Participants gained practical skills and tools to tackle energy challenges in their communities. The program is expected to create a ripple effect, thereby fostering a network of trained individuals addressing local energy needs.
