400 Rooftop Solar Panels Installed at East Yorkshire Football Ground

Bridlington Town AFC has completed the first phase of its rooftop solar project, installing 400 solar panels at the Mounting Systems Stadium. The rooftop solar system is expected to generate 180kW, thereby reducing energy costs and providing excess energy to the national grid.

Savings and Community Benefits from Rooftop Solar

Bridlington Town AFC — a football club in East Yorkshire — has successfully completed the first phase of its rooftop solar project at the Mounting Systems Stadium. This 2,800-capacity stadium now boasts 400 rooftop solar panels.

The installation is part of a larger initiative aimed at promoting renewable energy in football. These rooftop solar panels are expected to generate 180kW of power. This will allow the club to significantly reduce its energy costs and rely on cleaner, more sustainable energy.

The installation of the rooftop solar panels is not just about sustainability. It’s also a financial game changer for the club. The energy savings are projected to reach up to £42,000. This will allow Bridlington Town AFC to reinvest in various areas of the club — from team development to community initiatives.

The savings generated will enable the club to enhance its playing budget, thus improving the quality of the team and the overall football experience. Additionally, the club has announced plans to ensure that the financial benefits are passed on to its loyal fans, potentially lowering ticket prices and making matches more accessible to the local community.

Partnerships Driving Solar Energy Adoption

The rooftop solar installation has been made possible through the involvement of Pure Renewables — a Duracell Energy Platinum Partner. The technology provided by Pure Renewables allows the stadium to be powered almost entirely by the energy generated from the solar panels.

Dan Rogers, the chief executive of HDM Worldwide Ltd — the owner of Bridlington Town AFC — expressed his excitement about the project. Rogers explained that HDM Worldwide had only taken ownership of the club a few weeks prior, but they were already making great strides towards creating a more sustainable future for both the club and its supporters.

“We are committed to ensuring that cost does not become a barrier for local fans to attend matches,” Rogers said. He also added that the club’s vision includes developing a strong football environment, creating new opportunities for the team, and giving back to the community that has supported the club for years.

The installation of the rooftop solar panels is just one part of a broader plan by HDM Worldwide to create a sustainable football club. The club has also announced plans to set up a women’s football team and collaborate with local schools to provide football training for young players.

EV Chargers and Sponsorship from Duracell Energy

In addition to the rooftop solar panels, Bridlington Town AFC has attracted significant sponsorship from Duracell Energy. This partnership includes the installation of new EV chargers, which will provide additional benefits for the club and the community. As more electric vehicles hit the roads, having these chargers in place will help to promote eco-friendly transportation in the region.

Rogers also noted that it is unusual for a non-league football club to have a major solar and battery technology company as a kit sponsor. However, this partnership reflects the club’s ambition to lead the way in sustainability — both on and off the pitch.

Bridlington Town AFC's rooftop solar project marks a significant step toward sustainability — benefiting both the club and the community. With plans for local school support, a women's team, and reduced ticket prices, the club is leading by example in renewable energy and community engagement.
