Yinson Launches 97MWp Matarani Solar Plant in Peru

Yinson Renewables, a subsidiary of Yinson Holdings Bhd recently achieved full operational status for its 97MWp Matarani Solar Plant in Peru. Located near the city of Arequipa, the plant began exporting and selling power in July 2024 and has now become the second-largest solar energy producer in the country.

Matarani Plant to Power 62,000 Households in Peru

The Matarani solar plant is projected to generate 260 GWh of energy annually, meeting the electricity needs of approximately 62,000 Peruvian households while preventing over 56,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year. The facility features nearly 150,000 panels spread across 750,000 square meters and has a long-term power purchase agreement with Orygen—Peru's renewable energy producer supported by Actis.

“The Matarani Solar Plant is a significant milestone for Yinson Renewables, being our first in Peru and the region. With this plant now fully operational, Yinson Renewables has created a strong foundation that will facilitate our continued expansion in the region.” said David Brunt, Chief Executive Officer of Yinson Renewables.

Yinson Acquires Matarani from Grenergy Renovables

Matarani marks Yinson Renewables' fourth large-scale project to reach commercial operations, following the Rising Bhadla 1 & 2 solar plants and the Nokh Solar plant in India. Yinson Renewables is an independent renewable energy producer with a portfolio spanning the entire renewables value chain, focusing on three key regions: Latin America, Europe and Asia Pacific.

The company acquired the Matarani project from the Spanish renewable energy developer Grenergy Renovables SA earlier this year. Grenergy delivered extensive engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for the project and will also provide operation and maintenance support for the first two years.

Yinson Renewables Expands Renewable Energy Portfolio

The company operates 557 MW of utility-scale renewable energy assets, has a development pipeline exceeding 1.5 GW and more than 3 GW of early-stage projects in the works. The company's pipeline in Latin America features multiple projects with a combined capacity of nearly 1 GW, anticipated to be developed within the next three to five years.

In Peru, Yinson Renewables also owns the 130-MWp Majes solar plant project with the first phase expected to be ready for construction by the end of 2024.

Yinson Renewables is a subsidiary of Yinson Holdings Berhad, a Malaysian energy infrastructure and technology firm. The company operates across various sectors, including offshore energy through Yinson Production, renewable energy via Yinson Renewables, green technologies under Yinson GreenTech, sustainable investment and asset management with Farosson and offshore marine services through Regulus Offshore.
