LRE Completes 179 MW White Wing Ranch Solar Project

Leeward Renewable Energy (LRE) has achieved a significant milestone by completing the 179 MW White Wing Ranch solar project in Yuma County, Arizona.

White Wing Ranch Solar: Yuma County's Renewable Energy Future

The White Wing Ranch solar facility covers roughly 1,400 acres of privately owned land near Dateland and Hyder, Arizona. Its energy production is integrated into the bulk electric grid through the 500 kV Hoodoo Wash Switchyard, a key transmission hub that ensures the effective distribution of clean energy.

This project marks the first of many planned by LRE in Yuma County, thereby paving the way for a regional surge in renewable energy development.

The development highlights LRE’s commitment to utilizing local resources to create a strong clean energy foundation in Arizona. This strategy is designed to position Yuma County as a leading force in the state's renewable sector, demonstrating both strategic investment and sustainable growth.

“We are pleased to begin operations at White Wing Ranch and support Verizon’s sustainability goals. We are excited for the future of renewable energy in the region and are committed to contributing meaningfully to the community throughout the lifespan of the project.” said Jason Allen, CEO of LRE.

Advancing Solar Projects With Series 7 Modules

White Wing Ranch stands out for being the first to use First Solar’s Series 7 photovoltaic modules, representing a major leap forward in solar technology. These American-made panels provide greater energy efficiency and a reduced carbon footprint compared to traditional crystalline silicon panels. Their design boosts energy output and durability, contributing to the long-term sustainability and performance of the project.

LRE also incorporated Terabase Energy’s Terafab technology during construction. This innovative system combines automated tools and assembly methods to streamline the installation process, resulting in quicker and more cost-efficient deployment of the solar infrastructure. By utilizing such technology, LRE emphasizes its commitment to adopting advanced solutions that enhance the efficiency and scalability of renewable projects.

Boosting Local Economy With Renewable Energy

The White Wing Ranch project generated over 200 jobs at its peak construction phase, providing a notable economic boost to the local workforce. In addition to creating employment, the project offers long-term economic benefits, including increased property tax revenues that will support local government services and education in Yuma County. This revenue surge highlights the potential of renewable energy projects to drive regional development.

The successful launch of White Wing Ranch marks a key milestone in LRE’s larger goals in Arizona and beyond. The company plans more solar projects in Yuma County, leveraging the region’s abundant sunlight and ideal geographic conditions. This strategy is part of a broader initiative to strengthen the U.S. clean energy grid with reliable, emission-free power.
