Sembcorp’s Manah 2 Solar Project Launches Ahead of Schedule

Sembcorp Utilities, a subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries, has successfully passed the acceptance tests for its Manah 2 solar project in Oman. With an installed peak capacity of 588 MW, the project is set to commence commercial operations four months earlier than planned.

Sembcorp's Largest Renewable Project

Manah II is Sembcorp's inaugural regional renewable energy project, and the largest in its global renewable portfolio. It forms part of the 1 GW Manah solar development, and is estimated to cost approximately USD 800 million. The plant is the result of a joint venture between Sembcorp Utilities and China's Jinko Power. The other plant, Manah 1, was developed by EDF Renewables and Korea Western Power, boasting a 500 MW capacity.

500MW Solar Facility Boosts Oman’s Vision 2040 Goals

The solar facility operates under a 20-year power purchase agreement with Nama Power and Water Procurement Company for the supply of 500 MW of electricity. This partnership supports Oman Vision 2040, which aims to achieve 30% renewable energy in the nation’s energy mix by 2030. The Manah II solar project marks a major milestone in Oman’s renewable energy journey, utilizing utility-scale solar power to diversify the energy mix and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

Manah II: Advancing Clean Energy Through Collaboration

The Manah II solar project is expected to enhance Sembcorp’s earnings per share without significantly affecting its net tangible assets per share for the financial year ending December 31, 2024. The project's early completion demonstrates Sembcorp’s strong project execution capabilities and commitment to advancing global clean energy initiatives. It also reinforces Oman’s position as a key contributor to the Middle East’s shift toward sustainable energy.

This milestone underscores the value of public-private partnerships in advancing sustainable infrastructure. It highlights the collaborative efforts between local organizations (like Nama Power and Water Procurement Company) and global players such as Sembcorp in achieving shared environmental objectives.
