Emeren Inks Solar PPA for 15MW Polish Solar Project

Emeren Group has signed a seven-year solar PPA for a 15MW solar project in Poland, which marks a key milestone in its European renewable energy expansion. The project will generate 14,958 MWh of renewable energy annually, thus supporting Poland's climate goals by reducing carbon emissions and reliance on coal.

A Key Step in Poland’s Energy Transition

Emeren Group — a prominent US-based solar project developer — has signed a significant seven-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for a 15MW solar project in Poland. This agreement marks a key milestone for the company in its efforts to expand its renewable energy portfolio in Europe. The PPA was signed with a Polish subsidiary of an unnamed multinational consumer goods company. This collaboration will see the energy generated at the solar farm sold under a pay-as-produced agreement.

The solar facility is located in the southwest Silesia region of Poland, an area that is increasingly becoming a focal point for renewable energy projects. The project is set to generate approximately 14,958 MWh of renewable energy annually. This initiative reduces Poland’s reliance on coal-fired power. It is expected to mitigate around 16,150 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year, significantly contributing to Poland’s climate goals and global decarbonization efforts.

The agreement highlights Emeren Group’s commitment to supporting Poland’s energy transition. The country’s energy grid has traditionally been reliant on coal, which has contributed to high carbon emissions. The addition of a 15MW solar farm will help diversify the national energy mix, thus providing cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions. By supplying energy directly to the grid, the solar farm will also enhance local energy security.

Poland’s energy challenges are well-documented. Between 2015 and 2021, grid operators rejected nearly 6,000 renewable energy projects, which amounted to a combined capacity of about 30GW. This has created a bottleneck in the country's grid system. As a result, many projects have been delayed, and renewable energy developers face ongoing challenges when trying to connect to the grid.

Local Economic and Environmental Impact

Apart from its contribution to clean energy production, the 15MW solar project also provides notable economic benefits to the Silesia region. The construction phase of the project created jobs for 80 workers, including many from the local Ukrainian community. This development is part of Emeren Group’s broader strategy to create jobs and support local economies wherever it operates.

In addition to job creation, the ongoing operation of the solar farm will generate 10 permanent jobs in project operations and maintenance. The project will also bring substantial economic benefits through taxes. It is expected to generate approximately 90,000 PLN annually in property taxes and 167,000 PLN in land taxes.

The 15MW solar project is part of Emeren Group’s larger expansion in Poland. With a total capacity of 30.6MW, Emeren Group is well-positioned to further increase its presence in the Polish market. The company is also looking to expand its portfolio with both solar and co-located storage facilities, which are seen as a promising solution to Poland’s grid challenges.

Poland's energy grid struggles with connecting renewable energy projects, with grid curtailments potentially reaching 11% of total electricity production by the decade's end. To address these challenges, Emeren Group is focusing on co-located storage projects — including batteries — to improve grid stability.

A Strategic Focus on Renewable Energy and Solar PPA

Yumin Liu, CEO of Emeren Group, expressed pride in the company’s ability to execute projects in key markets like Poland. “The successful signing of a 7-year PPA demonstrates our ability to execute on critical aspects of our renewable energy strategy in key markets,” Liu said.

“These achievements reflect our commitment to delivering projects that drive environmental progress and create lasting value for communities. This project not only supports Poland’s energy transition, but it also strengthens the local economy and showcases our ability to deliver impactful renewable energy projects on a global scale.”

The seven-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for Emeren Group's 15MW solar project in Poland marks a significant milestone. It supports global decarbonization efforts and delivers local economic benefits. The company aims to expand its presence in Poland and Europe, thus focusing on renewable energy growth through strategic PPA partnerships.
