Enel Chile Unveils Second 81MW Hybrid Renewable Energy Plant

Enel Chile, through its subsidiary Enel Green Power Chile, has launched the second industrial-scale hybrid renewable energy plant in the Metropolitan Region.

Enel Chile's Energy Plant Cleared for Operation

Enel Chile’s new hybrid energy plant is ready to begin operations, having fulfilled all requirements from the National Electric Coordinator. These confirm the facility’s energy generation reliability and safety for workers, nearby communities and the National Electric System. Don Humberto is Enel Chile’s second industrial-scale hybrid renewable energy unit in the Metropolitan Region developed by its renewables division, Enel Green Power Chile.

Giuseppe Turchiarelli, CEO of Enel Chile, said: “We are proud to continue contributing to the development of a more resilient and flexible national energy matrix, which allows for better management of energy demand when renewable generation is lower. We have implemented BESS systems with the potential to provide multiple security and stability services to the system. In this sense, we believe regulatory enablement is essential for this technology to participate in the provision of complementary services and reduce the systemic costs paid by users.”

Don Humberto Solar Plant to Power 80,000 Homes

Don Humberto's solar with a net installed capacity of 81 MW will produce approximately 188 GWh of 100% clean energy annually. This energy will be fed into the National Electric System (SEN), powering nearly 80,000 Chilean homes and preventing over 148,000 tons of CO2 emissions yearly.

With an energy storage capacity (BESS) of 67 MW for two hours, Enel Chile's new industrial-scale hybrid energy plant will manage approximately 43 GWh annually. This will allow the supply of clean, renewable energy during peak consumption times and when solar resources are limited.

Enel Chile: Driving Clean Energy Transition

Enel Chile is a prominent electricity utility company in Chile, specializing in the generation, distribution and commercialization of electricity. As a subsidiary of the Italian multinational energy company Enel, its operations are divided into key areas: Enel Generación Chile, Enel Distribución Chile and Enel Green Power Chile. Enel Chile has played a significant role in the country's shift towards cleaner energy by actively participating in renewable energy projects such as solar and wind farms.
