Enel Green Power Launches 240 MWac Solar Plants in Colombia

Enel Colombia, through its Enel Green Power division, has commenced operations of the 150 MWac La Loma and 90 MWac Fundación plants, situated in the César and Magdalena departments. This follows the successful conclusion of required technical and regulatory assessments.

La Loma Solar: 150 MW Capacity for Colombia

La Loma contributes around 150 MW of effective net capacity. It was inaugurated in February this year. The solar facility spans 387 hectares and features 400,000 panels, capable of generating approximately 420 GWh annually.

This output is sufficient to power around 600,000 individuals, equivalent to the population of a city like Bucaramanga, making it the largest centrally dispatched solar farm in Colombia, according to Enel Colombia. The construction of these projects employed 1,720 people, with at least 77% going to residents of the region.

Fundación Solar Park: 90 MW Capacity Powers Magdalena

The Fundación Solar Park is located in the municipality of Pivijay in Magdalena. The plant consists of more than 244,000 bifacial panels of 540 Wp each, installed on a 237-hectare plot of land, divided into 18 subfields. It began its commercial operations and produced first power in August 2023. It has an effective net capacity of 90 MW, providing the country with 267 GWh annually. It will be inaugurated in the coming weeks.

Construction on the project commenced in August last year, following its selection among 11 projects awarded contracts in the Ministry of Mines and Energy's third auction for long-term contracts in October 2021. The project is anticipated to require an investment of approximately $109 million.

Enel's Solar Farms Boost Colombia's Renewable Energy

La Loma, Fundación Solar Park, and El Paso, collectively reaching a total installed capacity of 99.5 MWdc as of last April and all owned by Enel, are part of the six centrally dispatched solar projects currently operational in Colombia.

As of 2024, the solar parks energized by the company (El Paso, La Loma, Fundación, and Guayepo I&II) now account for over 34% of Colombia's total solar energy production within the interconnected system, showcasing the company's dedication to diversifying and ensuring the reliability of the energy matrix.

Enel Green Power's successful launch of the La Loma and Fundación solar plants underscores a transformative step towards sustainable energy in Colombia. With substantial capacities and impressive output capabilities, these projects not only bolster the nation's energy security but also showcase Enel's commitment to sustainable development and community involvement. As Colombia continues to expand its renewable energy infrastructure, initiatives like La Loma and Fundación Solar Park serve as benchmarks for future growth, driving towards a more sustainable and resilient energy future for the country.
