Group Unveils Solar-Powered Borehole In Omagwa

Asharami Synergy has launched a solar-powered borehole system in Omagwa, thus providing a sustainable and reliable source of clean water to address the community’s urgent needs. Operating 24/7, the system improves health, hygiene, and well-being, while supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 for universal access to water and sanitation.

Solar-Powered Borehole: A Sustainable Solution

Asharami Synergy — a subsidiary of the Sahara Group — has launched a groundbreaking solar-powered borehole system in the Omagwa community of Rivers State. The new borehole is equipped with a 1.5-horsepower DC water pump and 1,200 watts of solar panels. It is set to provide a sustainable and reliable source of clean water for the community.

The solar-powered borehole system represents an innovative solution to the critical issue of water scarcity in Omagwa. With the ability to operate 24/7, the borehole will not only supply clean water, but it will also improve health, hygiene, and overall well-being within the community. The project aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6), which aims to ensure universal access to water and sanitation.

Nomnso Dike, CEO of Asharami Synergy, expressed the company’s commitment to sustainable development. He stated, "This initiative is more than a water project. It reflects our dedication to making a tangible impact in the communities we serve while fostering long-term relationships both locally and globally."

The solar-powered borehole project is in line with Asharami Synergy’s corporate philosophy of “Making a Difference Responsibly.” The company continues to prioritize sustainable energy solutions while driving community development and fostering strong local partnerships.

Impact on Health and Hygiene

The new borehole is expected to significantly improve public health by providing a consistent supply of clean water. In many communities, access to clean water is directly linked to better hygiene practices and a reduction in waterborne diseases. This project will help improve the overall quality of life for residents in Omagwa by ensuring they have a safe and reliable water source.

Henry Nnadi, Depot Manager for Asharami Synergy in Omagwa, highlighted the importance of the project, stating, "Access to portable water is critical, and Asharami Synergy is delighted to serve the community through this sustainable initiative." The project was developed following consultations with the local community to ensure it met their specific needs.

The solar-powered borehole is a prime example of how renewable energy technologies can address pressing community challenges. By using solar energy, Asharami Synergy has created a solution that is both eco-friendly and cost-effective, thereby reducing reliance on traditional power sources.

Strengthening Local Partnerships

The commissioning of the solar-powered borehole comes shortly after the launch of the Asharami Retail Station in Omagwa. Both initiatives reflect Asharami Synergy’s commitment to making a positive impact on the community. The collaboration between the company and the Sahara Group Foundation played a key role in ensuring the success of the project.

The project was also attended by community leaders including Comrade Benneth Maduike, President of the Omagwa Airport Landlord Association. Maduike praised the project, emphasising its potential to bring lasting benefits to the community. He recognised the importance of having a dependable water source and expressed gratitude for Asharami Synergy’s efforts.

As a market leader in the downstream energy sector, Asharami Synergy has a proven track record of creating innovative solutions that benefit both the environment and the communities they serve. This solar-powered borehole is an example of the company’s broader efforts to contribute to sustainable growth.

Asharami Synergy’s solar-powered borehole project in Omagwa is more than just a solution to the community’s water needs. It is a testament to the company’s commitment to sustainable development, responsible energy solutions, and creating lasting partnerships. The project will not only provide clean water, but it will also contribute to the overall health, hygiene, and well-being of the residents. It sets a positive example for other organisations to follow.
