LG Inaugurates Solar Boreholes and Streetlights in Epe

LG Electronics has launched solar boreholes and streetlights in Oriba, Epe, as part of its commitment to sustainable development. These installations aim to improve access to clean water and enhance security for the community.

Enhancing Community Well-being through Sustainable Projects

In a significant move towards community development, LG Electronics has officially launched a solar-powered treated borehole and streetlights in the Oriba community of Epe Local Government Area, Lagos State.

The solar boreholes and streetlights initiative is a testament to LG's dedication to enhancing the quality of life for the Oriba community. It is part of LG's broader commitment to sustainable development and improving the lives of residents in underserved communities.

The project — aligned with the company's corporate social responsibility blueprint — aims to address key issues such as access to clean water and improved security, which are vital for the well-being of the residents.

Commitment to Sustainable Development

During the project's inauguration, Mr. Paul Mba, Marketing Manager of LG Electronics Nigeria, emphasized the company’s commitment to community empowerment. Representing the Managing Director, Mba highlighted LG's belief in fostering sustainable development as a means to improve lives.

He expressed confidence that these contributions would provide immediate benefits and support long-term growth in Oriba. The project includes the installation of five water points, powered by six 210-watt solar panels, to ensure a steady supply of clean, treated water. Additionally, ten 800-watt solar-powered streetlights have been strategically placed throughout the community.

Community Leaders Express Gratitude

The Oriba community has warmly welcomed the new amenities. Aare Adesegun Hassan, a key community leader, expressed deep gratitude to LG Electronics on behalf of the residents.

He praised the project for its potential to enhance safety through the new streetlights and improve health by providing clean water, both of which are critical needs for the community.

The installation of streetlights has had an immediate impact on Oriba, transforming the community by removing the darkness that once posed a security threat. The new lighting has made the community safer for all residents — particularly at night — and is expected to reduce the incidence of crime.

A Symbol of Progress and Hope

The solar-powered borehole is a game-changer for Oriba, addressing the community's long-standing challenge of accessing potable water. Previously, residents had to travel long distances to fetch water, often from unsafe sources. The availability of clean water, in particular, is expected to have a profound impact on the health and well-being of residents.

The new borehole system now provides a reliable supply of clean, treated water, significantly improving the daily lives of the community, especially for women and children.

Chief S.B. Olukolu, Patron of the Oriba Youth Movement, shared his thoughts on the significance of the project during the commissioning ceremony. He described the solar boreholes and streetlights as symbols of progress, development, and a brighter future for the community.

Community Celebrates a Brighter Future

The commissioning of the solar boreholes and streetlights was marked by celebrations throughout the community. The Oriba Youth Movement, along with other residents, expressed their joy and gratitude through songs and dances.

LG Electronics initiative in Oriba is a shining example of how corporate social responsibility can lead to meaningful change. By addressing critical needs such as clean water and security, LG is setting a precedent for other organizations to follow.

The success of this project highlights the importance of sustainable development initiatives that prioritize the well-being of communities, contributing to their long-term growth and prosperity.

As Oriba's residents continue to benefit from the solar-powered boreholes and streetlights, the positive effects of LG Electronics' efforts are clear. These installations are not just infrastructure; they are beacons of hope for a healthier, brighter, and more secure future for the entire community.
