The NEDC has successfully installed solar street lights at the Federal University Wukari and its teaching hospital. In addition, the Commission has extended this effort to Taraba State University (TSU) in Jalingo and various streets in the city. These solar lights are expected to provide continuous lighting, ensuring safety and visibility in and around these institutions.

Alhaji Goni Alkali, the Managing Director of NEDC, led the team overseeing the project. He expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of the work done. According to Alkali, the solar street light initiative aims to supplement the existing electricity supply in these institutions.

This initiative marks a critical step in ensuring reliable and sustainable energy for institutions that serve as pillars of education and healthcare in Taraba. By providing an alternative energy source, the project ensures that these institutions and their surrounding communities remain well-lit — even during power outages.

In addition to the installations at universities and hospitals, the NEDC has also installed solar lights at the Government Day Secondary School in Bali. This project is particularly important for the safety of students and staff, as it ensures that the school premises remain well-lit during the evening hours.

Expanding Infrastructure Across Taraba State

The NEDC's efforts in Taraba State extend beyond the installation of solar street lights. The Commission is also supervising a range of other critical infrastructure projects. These include mass housing developments at the Federal Polytechnic Bali, the General Hospital Bali, and a mega school project in Wukari.

In Wukari, the Commission has also focused on enhancing the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) unit at the Federal University Wukari. The goal is to ensure that the institution remains at the forefront of technological advancement, providing students and staff with the resources they need to excel.

Furthermore, the NEDC has completed the construction of a warehouse in Jalingo, which will serve as a central hub for the Commission’s activities in the state. The warehouse is expected to play a key role in supporting the logistics of ongoing and future projects across Taraba.

Mass Housing and Healthcare Projects

The NEDC’s impact in Taraba is also evident in its mass housing initiatives. The Commission is overseeing the construction of housing units at the Federal University Wukari, the university’s teaching hospital, the Federal Government College Wukari, and Government Secondary School Wukari.

In Jalingo, the Commission has installed three solar-powered boreholes at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC). These boreholes are expected to provide a reliable source of clean water, which is essential for the hospital's operations and the well-being of patients and staff.

Moreover, the NEDC is supervising the construction of mass housing units at the Taraba State Polytechnic in Jalingo. This project is part of the Commission’s broader goal to improve living conditions and support the educational infrastructure in the state.

The NEDC's installation of solar street lights and other infrastructure projects in Taraba State is a major investment in the region's future, providing reliable energy, clean water, and improved living conditions. These initiatives not only address immediate needs but also contribute to long-term sustainable development, thereby creating a safer and more vibrant environment for education and healthcare in the state.
