RWE, a global leader in energy, has achieved a major milestone in the U.S., reaching 10 gigawatts (GW) of installed renewable capacity across its onshore wind, solar and energy storage facilities nationwide.
RWE Expands U.S. Clean Energy Portfolio with Over 170 Facilities
The company manages an extensive portfolio of over 170 facilities across 24 U.S. states encompassing 4.3 GW of solar power, 5.2 GW of onshore wind energy and 0.5 GW of battery storage capacity. Additionally, RWE is actively constructing more than 4 GW of clean energy projects in the U.S.
With operations in most U.S. states, RWE is rapidly expanding its presence to fulfil its commitment to delivering affordable, reliable energy, thereby fostering economic growth and opportunities in communities nationwide.
Andrew Flanagan, Chief Executive Officer, RWE Clean Energy, stated: “By working with top tier suppliers, partnering with local communities and empowering employees, RWE is generating impact across America with clean, domestically produced electricity. We’re fueling economic growth, creating new jobs and providing millions in tax revenues and additional financial benefits to our partners in the community, while also enhancing national energy security.”
RWE Launches 953 MW Clean Energy Projects in 2024
RWE launched new onshore wind, solar and battery storage facilities with a combined capacity of 953 MW in 2024. These six projects address the rising energy demand fueled by artificial intelligence, data centres and American manufacturing.
RWE actively partners with local communities while developing projects across the U.S. This involves ongoing community engagement, funding local organizations and nonprofits, supporting landowners and contributing property tax revenue to municipalities. These contributions help fund new infrastructure, emergency services, school programs and more.
RWE’s achievement of its 10 GW milestone is supported by two newly commissioned solar projects in the U.S.: Northern Orchard Solar and Timberland Solar. Northern Orchard has a capacity of 150 MWac of solar energy and includes a 92 MW (368 MWh) battery storage system set to be operational in the coming months. Timberland Solar is a 140 MWac solar facility. These two projects can generate enough electricity to power approximately 51,000 average U.S. homes each year.
