Shawton Energy has acquired an 8.6MW solar project in Pembrokeshire from One Planet Developments, thus expanding its renewable energy portfolio. The 14,000-panel solar farm, which has received planning approval, will generate enough electricity to power 2,500 homes annually.
Shawton Energy Expands Solar Portfolio With New Solar Project
Merseyside-based Shawton Energy has secured an 8.6MW solar project in south Wales. The company acquired the solar farm from One Planet Developments, which marks a significant expansion in its renewable energy portfolio.
The solar project — located in Pembrokeshire — has received planning approval. It consists of over 14,000 solar panels and will generate enough electricity to power 2,500 homes annually. Construction of the solar farm will begin shortly. The company expects energy generation to commence later this year. Once operational, the project will save over 2,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
The acquisition comes as British businesses increasingly seek low-cost and long-term renewable energy solutions. Many companies lack the space to install solar panels on their own premises. This solar project will help them meet sustainability targets while reducing electricity costs.
Jamie Shaw, CEO of Shawton Energy, highlighted the importance of this acquisition. “The acquisition of this ready-to-build asset from One Planet is a major milestone. This project will support our corporate and industrial clients in their cost reduction and environmental programmes.”
The development aligns with Shawton Energy’s commitment to providing secure and decarbonised energy solutions. The company has been growing its on-site generation Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) portfolio for nearly a decade. This new project further strengthens its renewable electricity generation offering.
Commitment to Small-Scale Distributed Infrastructure
Shawton Energy remains committed to expanding small-scale distributed energy infrastructure. The Pembrokeshire solar project reflects the company’s long-term strategy of diversifying its solar portfolio.
“This is an exciting opportunity to further build, strengthen and diversify our existing solar portfolio,” Jamie Shaw said. “It demonstrates our commitment to expanding small-scale distributed infrastructure and supporting national and corporate renewable energy targets.”
Robert Wall, Head of Sustainable Private Infrastructure at Lazard Asset Management, echoed these sentiments. “We are committed to supporting the development of local, distributed and sustainable energy, and we are pleased to be further supporting Shawton Energy in its continued growth and local investments.”
He emphasised the role of renewable energy in meeting the UK’s rising electricity demand. “This Welsh project provides a clear opportunity to provide UK businesses with the low-cost energy they need to grow.”
Collaboration with One Planet Developments
One Planet Developments played a key role in bringing the solar project to the ready-to-build stage. James Stoney, Business Development Director at One Planet Developments, expressed satisfaction with the partnership. “One Planet is very pleased to have worked with Shawton Energy on this fantastic project. Having developed the site from scratch through to ready-to-build stage, we look forward to seeing Shawton Energy build, own and operate it.”
The Pembrokeshire solar project is part of Shawton Energy’s broader commitment to increasing renewable energy capacity across the UK. The company has been actively acquiring and developing solar projects to support the energy transition. With rising electricity costs and stricter sustainability targets, businesses are looking for reliable renewable energy solutions. The new solar project will provide long-term benefits by reducing dependence on fossil fuels and lowering carbon emissions.
Shawton Energy’s investment in distributed solar infrastructure aligns with national energy goals. The UK government has set ambitious renewable energy targets, and projects like this contribute to the country’s decarbonisation efforts.
Shawton Energy’s acquisition of the 8.6MW solar project in Pembrokeshire represents a major step in its renewable energy expansion. The project will supply clean energy to thousands of homes and businesses, reducing carbon emissions and electricity costs. As the UK continues its transition to renewable energy, investments in solar projects will be critical.
