Unilever Costa Rica to Install 1.36 MMW Solar System in Heredia

Unilever Costa Rica, a branch of the multinational corporation known for food, personal hygiene, and cleaning products, plans to install a 1.36 MMW solar system at its Belén plant in Heredia, Central America.

Unilever Costa Rica is set to embark on a significant renewable energy initiative with the installation of a 1.36 MW solar system at its Belén plant in Heredia. Covering an expansive area of 6,100 square meters, this ambitious project will include the installation of solar panels on both rooftops and ground surfaces. The development marks one of the largest solar energy projects in Costa Rica to date.

Supported by Enertiva and implemented through a comprehensive energy services agreement with distributor Compañía Nacional de Fuerza y Luz (CNFL), this inititiative represents a major advancement in sustainable energy utilization.

By harnessing solar power, Unilever Costa Rica aims to enhance its sustainability efforts and reduce its carbon footprint, aligning with the country's commitment to green energy. The project reflects Unilever's broader global strategy of integrating renewable energy solutions into its operations, supporting both environmental goals and operational efficiency. 

Luis González, Manager of the Unilever Costa Rica Nutrition Factory, highlights the goal of achieving emission-free production processes and a fully renewable energy supply, making the Belén plant the first of its kind in the Unilever global network.

Advancing Sustainable Energy Through Partnership


Alejandro Brenes, Manager of Enertiva, praises the project as a successful example of a public-private partnership. He emphasizes the collaboration between Unilever, CNFL and Enertiva as a model of innovation that promotes environmental sustainability, job creation and economic development.

Enertiva is a Central American company that specializes in providing renewable energy solutions, particularly in the solar power sector. Established in 2007, Enertiva has become a significant player in the renewable energy market in the region, focusing on solar systems, solar thermal systems and energy efficiency projects.
