Verano Energy Start Building 200MW San Rafael Solar Park

Verano Energy—a renewables developer focused on Latin America—has begun building a 200-MW solar park in Argentina, marking its expansion in the region with previous projects in Chile, Peru and Colombia. The San Rafael Solar Park is anticipated to commence operations by late 2025.

San Rafael Solar Park Secures Grid Access with Strategic Partnerships

The San Rafael Solar Park is a fully developed project that includes comprehensive environmental impact assessments and electrical studies. Given Argentina's limited interconnection capacity which is accessible through tenders, Verano Energy partnered with an undisclosed “leading renewable energy company” in the country to secure grid connectivity for the plant.

According to Verano, the San Rafael solar park offers significant advantages, including high solar radiation, favourable terrain, easy accessibility and an on-site major substation. Once operational, it will be vital in addressing local energy needs and supporting the country's sustainability goals.

Verano Energy Expands Solar PV Initiatives in Latin America

Verano Energy—recognized for its projects in Latin America—currently operates over 350 MW of renewable energy capacity and has a development pipeline exceeding 3 GW across Chile, Peru, Colombia and Argentina. In Peru, the company plans to establish nearly 6 GW of solar PV capacity aimed at producing green ammonia.

Verano Energy's CEO, Dylan Rudney, highlighted the Peruvian market as "under the radar," noting its significant potential for renewable power generation and its ability to support resources like green ammonia. Earlier this year, the solar developer sold a 150 MWp project in Mendoza to an undisclosed buyer.

Solar Project to Enhance Local Economy and Support Sustainability Goals

The development of this solar project is anticipated to generate numerous job opportunities during both the construction phase and ongoing operations, positively impacting the local economy. It will also contribute to Argentina's broader objectives of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and transitioning to a more sustainable energy model.

Verano Energy’s investment aligns with a growing trend in the region, as countries throughout Latin America increasingly prioritize renewable energy sources. Through this project, Verano Energy aims to significantly influence Argentina's energy landscape, fostering a greener future for the nation.

As construction advances, the company is eager to contribute to the growth of renewable energy in Argentina, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and innovation within the energy sector.
